Joe Henson started the marathon in perfect shape. He was feeling great, his pace was just right and the weather was what he called "decent". However, a few miles before approaching the finish line, he felt his heart and chest flutter and he started to experience tunnel vision, then he suddenly collapsed. Henson was having a heart attack and became unconscious. All of a sudden, a guy who came from nowhere appeared saying he's a cardiologist checked Joe Henson's pulse and found it very weak. The doctor started to perform CPR and together with the lifesaving skills of the Birmingham Firefighers and Andrews Sports Medicine, Joe Henson regained consciousness. He was later brought to the hospital where he was declared out of danger.
