As a Kentucky BLS, ACLS or PALS certified professional understands, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is critical to preventing cardiac-related emergencies. The team at Rush ACLS developed this portion of our website to address these issues. We want to do our part in preventing cardiac-related emergencies in the state of Kentucky.
For every 100,000 people in the state of Kentucky, approximately 311 will die of cardiovascular-related causes. While many of these cannot be prevented, living a physically active life can go a long way in stopping heart attacks and cardiac arrests.
Experts recommend about 20 – 30 minutes of daily physical activity. Here are some things that you can do in the state of Kentucky to remain active.
If you’re looking for a unique idea on your next trip to Kentucky, we suggest that you give tree climbing a try. In Kentucky, there is no such thing as a simple tree climbing — it is tree climbing on a whole new level. If you’re not scared of heights at all, you can ask to climb the oldest tree in the area. Tree climbing is a great adventure for your whole family and friends. You will be able to see and even climb majestic trees within the state and give your body a steady aerobic workout. You will be working your body out when you participate in this physical activity as you are using several groups of muscles when you’re climbing to the top of a tree.
Kentucky has endless waterways and what’s the best thing to do when you have opportunities like this? Bring out your paddles, of course, and go on a canoeing trip with your friends. Whether you’re a serious and competitive paddler or just want to have some fun, you’ll find a great spot, thanks to the plenty public access to the state’s streams and rivers. Canoeing allows you to enjoy the tranquillity that only calm waters can bring. It is also a great activity that can improve your health and fitness. As you’re working the paddle, you will increase your muscle strength. You will also greatly improve your cardiovascular fitness during your canoeing trip.
The obesity rate in Kentucky is almost 32%. As our Kentucky ACLS, BLS and PALS certification customers know, the best way to fight obesity is to maintain a healthy diet.
The first step to eating healthy is to shop for groceries at the right places. A farmer’s market typically has wholesome food without unnecessary additives, fat and sugar. When you shop at a farmers’ market, you are also supporting local farmers. Here is a site that can help you find a farmer’s market near where you live.https://louisvilleky.gov/government/sustainability/local-food-and-farmers-markets
For the children
The childhood obesity rate in Kentucky is about 19.7%. Obese children typically grow up to be obese adults. Here is a list of some things that you can do with the whole family in Kentucky.

Toddler saved from drowning
Joe Henson started the marathon in perfect shape. He was feeling great, his pace was just right and the weather was what he called "decent". However, a few miles before approaching the finish line, he felt his heart and chest flutter and he started to experience tunnel vision, then he suddenly collapsed. Henson was having a heart attack and became unconscious. All of a sudden, a guy who came from nowhere appeared saying he's a cardiologist checked Joe Henson's pulse and found it very weak. The doctor started to perform CPR and together with the lifesaving skills of the Birmingham Firefighers and Andrews Sports Medicine, Joe Henson regained consciousness. He was later brought to the hospital where he was declared out of danger.
